Some things go beyond annoying, so much so that people want them to become prohibited and illegal. Specific things listed are already unlawful in other countries, while others are nothing but common sense. Many involve modern technologies, politics, and those who need adult protection the most.
Lifelong politicians
Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and those who don’t vote agreed that terms should be limited in all government brunches. If there are rules for POTUS, similar rules should exist for legislators, judges, and everyone else. People are tired of the same faces and old ideas, and most believe limiting terms would fight corruption.
Pet breeders
An attempt to stop the puppy-mill-to-pet-store pipeline and vicious breeders is making waves beyond the standards of care. Americans love their pets, maybe even more than any other nation, which is admirable. Yet, excessive breeding leads to many animals ending up in high-kill shelters, and to stop it, many Americans believe that laws should be stricter and more animal-friendly.
Spam and telemarketing calls
Despite attempts by lawmakers, people are still getting intrusive spam and telemarketing calls, and they are left to their own devices to deal with nuisance. This has been an issue for a long time, but the number of unwanted calls is growing, and spammers are getting craftier, and they need to be stopped once and for all.
Obnoxiously loud commercials
People know that TV ads are louder than movies or TV series, and this goes beyond annoying. Loud commercials were made to snap us out of whatever we were watching and focus on what was selling. However, it is irresponsible to the elderly, babies, people with special needs, and people with mental health issues who might be sleeping in the same or the room next to the TV. Not everyone lives in a mansion.
Single-use plastics
Many Americans were pleasantly surprised to learn that Europe banned single-use plastics and packaging. These are damaging to human health and the environment and present a grave danger to many animals. Plastics pollute our water and food, and that’s why many agree that we should at least ban single-use plastics.
Uncontrolled fireworks
Fireworks should be used in restricted areas because they might negatively affect seniors, infants, people with mental health issues like PTSD, and those with special needs. They can also start fires and negatively impact the environment. Banning fireworks on July 4th would go against the traditions, but certain laws must be implemented so people can live peacefully.
Traditional workweek
In a fast-paced world, a traditional 40+ hour workweek is highly exhausting. This is especially noticeable in the States, where people work more than Europeans, despite numerous researchers proving that longer work hours don’t necessarily equate to increased productivity. Long work hours make us more prone to accidents, negatively impact our mental health and diet, and lead to illness, so there should be new work laws that are in tune with the XXI century.
Bots and concert tickets
Ticket bots gained the attention of lawmakers, but venue owners claim they need to come up with more effective solutions to deal with surging ticket prices. People are forced to go through resellers and pay insane prices only to see their favorite bands. Seeing an artist you’ve been following for years or decades should not be difficult, and laws must be implemented.
Beauty pageants for kids
There are over 5000 pageants annually, and they gather around 250,000 children. Many of these events involve children dressing up, acting, and dancing as adults, and they are exposed to eating disorders, predators, objectification, and more. Kids should be kids, and most people agree that competitions involving children should allow them to be themselves.
Overpriced medication
Most medications cost more in the US than anywhere else in the world. Though the current administration brought some changes, there are still too many unaffordable medications. The whole system where drug makers set the prices and companies use the drug patent system to limit competition and keep the prices up should be illegal.
Dark money
Around 80 percent of Republicans and Democrats agreed that those who donate large sums have too much power over the decision-making process in the government. Even worse, the lack of transparency regarding big donors makes it harder for people to trust the government, which is why so many agree that this practice must be stopped.
Child currency
Family social media channels where parents are using their kids for monetary gain are beyond annoying. Children cannot give consent to participate in the social media craze, and no one knows how it will affect them in the future. It is a concerning practice that is all too common in modern society.
